Will Bayley_25-01-12January 25 - The British Paralympic Association (BPA) have confirmed the first ten table tennis players selected to compete for ParalympicsGB at London 2012 this summer.

They have all qualified through regional championships and world ranking lists, and form one of the world's youngest squads.

Those selected have been working with performance manager Gorazd Vecko to help improve the fortunes of the table tennis team after a disappointing showing in Beijing at the 2008 Paralympics.

Included is world number one Will Bayley (pictured) in the men's class seven, who said: "I am really proud to have been selected for ParalympicsGB.

"Our team live and train together, and we have been working really hard to prepare for London 2012.

"I know that with the support of ParalympicsGB we will be well prepared for the Games."

ParalympicsGB Chef de Mission Craig Hunter added: "I'm delighted to welcome this group of athletes to ParalympicsGB.

"To have all ten ranked within the top eleven in the world shows that there is real potential within this squad and tribute should be paid to the governing body for supporting the development of these athletes, six of whom will be competing in their first Paralympic Games."

Vecko added: "I am very proud that this young squad have earned their place at the Paralympic Games.

"Paralympic table tennis is very competitive and so to have this many players well placed as we go into a home Games is a great situation to be in."

UK Sport chief executive Liz Nicholl was also full of praise for the team.

"Congratulations to the 10 table tennis players who have been selected to represent ParalympicsGB at the London 2012 Paralympic Games today," she said.

"The sport has bounced back from their disappointment in Beijing and is thriving under the leadership of Gorazd Vecko and his team.

"I'm sure they will shine in front of a home crowd at the Games this year."
