International Pole Sports Federation (IPSF) has declined to renew the Mexican Pole Sports Federation’s membership citing issues including athlete and judge intimidation, IPSF rule violations and copyright infringement.

The IPSF said its Executive Committee met online to discuss "two years’ worth of issues experienced at the hand of the Mexican Federation, led by Jezabel Olmos."

This included attempts by the IPSF to correct wrongdoing in the Mexican federation.

The IPSF Executive Committee’s five members voted unanimously not to review the federation’s membership for the 2020 to 2021 competitive year.

A series of measures have also been introduced by the IPSF.

This includes Mexican officials and representatives being unable to sit on IPSF committees, while the country will not be able to host or bid for any editions of the IPSF’s major events during a four-year period.

Neither the President, the secretary general, the chief executive, nor any member of the Executive Board from the federation will be able to participate in or attend any major event staged by the IPSF.

"The ExCo’s strong decision today shows the IPSF’s determination to act resolutely when rules are consistently broken," said Katie Coates, IPSF President.

"For too long, the Mexican federation has detracted from a fair sport, using power to wield fear amongst their athletes, coaches and judges.

"The blatant and continued breach by the Mexican Federation and its President Jezabel Olmos of a written warning, approved by the ExCo, demanded a robust response.

"That is exactly what has been delivered today.

"Mexico was afforded every opportunity to work with the IPSF for the good of its athletes and for the integrity of the sport, but it chose instead to continue in its stance of doing as it wished while all other IPSF federations worked within the rules.

"As a result, the IPSF ExCo has responded in the strongest possible terms, while protecting the rights of Mexican athletes to continue competing.

"Our priority now is to help the Mexican athletes qualify for the Worlds 2021."

The IPSF say Mexican athletes and their support personnel will be able to participate at major events.

They will only be permitted to attend as an "open athlete."
