Chen Weiqiang, the deputy secretary general of the Organising Committee and also the vice-mayor of the Chinese city, led the party to the Hangzhou Sports Park Stadium.

The 80,000-capacity stadium is part of the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Expo City where renovation and construction work is also continuing at other venues.

Hangzhou's delegation examined the VIP areas at the stadium, as well as the interior decoration design of the venue and the training sites.

Chen reaffirmed that all renovation work should be done in a "frugal" fashion to tie in with the Games' hope to be sustainable.

Long-term planning and considering the use of the venues after the Games is also important, he said. 

The 2022 Asian Games are due to run from September 10 to 25, with 40 sports on the programme and more than 10,000 athletes expected to compete.   

China is due to host for the first time since the 2010 Games in Guangzhou. 

Construction at the Hangzhou venues continued on October 1, despite it being China's National Day holiday.

"We are faced with a challenging task under a tight schedule," said project chief Wang Zhongxian to Xinhua.

"Although I'm close to home, I can't go back.

"All of us miss our homes and families. 

"I just can't leave my colleagues and workers here working while enjoying the holiday all alone."
