Recyclable products company Stora Enso has renewed its sponsorship of the International Ski Federation (FIS) Nordic World Ski Championships.

The Finnish-based firm, which specialises in renewable solutions in packaging, biomaterials, wooden constructions and paper, has signed-on to support Planica 2023 and Trondheim 2025.

Stora Enso has previously backed three editions of the Nordic World Championships, the flagship FIS event for cross-country skiing, ski jumping and Nordic combined, and had already committed to Oberstdorf next year.

The company will feature on the official event logos as well as the athletes' bibs, and will work to ensure the Championships are held with environmental responsibility in mind.

This will include start gates and interview backdrops made out of recyclable raw materials.

TRIDEM Sports AG brokered the deal on behalf of Infront, the exclusive media and marketing partner of the FIS.

"Stora Enso is a role model sponsor for FIS with their proactive support of the Local Organising Committees' sustainability initiatives with practical measures," said FIS secretary general Sarah Lewis.

"We are extremely pleased that Stora Enso has extended its engagement for the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships through 2025.

"The company's strong eco-friendly philosophy and actions will have a chance to truly shine with the engaged hosts of Planica and Trondheim, who have both highlighted sustainability at the core of the Championships' DNA.

"It is truly a perfect fit for all parties."

At the 2019 World Championships in Seefeld, more than 5,000 trees were planted due to Stora Enso's backing.

In Oberstdorf next year, renewable paper cups, shopping bags and other sustainable goods will be provided.

"We are excited to prolong our sponsorship of the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships until 2025," said Stora Enso's President and chief executive Annica Bresky.

"Our renewable products contribute to making the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships top sustainable events.

"We are proud to be part of this journey and find the long-term focus as presenting sponsor of the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships very successful."
