Organisers of next year's Olympic and Paralympic Games have launched the "Tokyo 2020 Let’s 55 Virtual Experience".

A series of virtual reality sports filmed from the athletes' perspective are set to form part of the Tokyo 2020 "Let's 55" programme.

This aims to provide opportunities for the public to familiarise themselves with all 55 sports due to feature at the Olympics and Paralympics.

The virtual reality videos will allow fans to immerse themselves in realistic competition scenarios and bring to life the thoughts and feelings of athletes representing each sport.

Two videos were released today, featuring diver Mai Yasuda and Para-swimmer Keiichi Kimura.

Videos will be available on the Tokyo 2020 Youtube channel, the Let's 55 website and social media.

In March, the global health crisis led to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games being postponed until 2021.

The Olympics are now scheduled for July 23 to August 8, followed by the Paralympics from August 24 to September 5.

Organisers are currently assessing what actions can be implemented to ensure the Games run smoothly against the backdrop of the pandemic.

A coronavirus countermeasures taskforce, comprised of officials from the Japanese Government, Tokyo Metropolitan Government and Tokyo 2020, is meeting regularly.

A total of 50 measures designed to cut costs, relating to areas including the number of people involved, infrastructure and Ceremonies, have also been approved by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Tokyo 2020.
