Andrea Piccillo has been elected President of the Italian Paralympic Federation of Powerchair Sport (FIPPS).

Piccillo was chosen at an Elective General Assembly of the FIPPS, the organisation created following a merger between the Italian governing bodies of powerchair hockey and powerchair football.

Antonio Spinelli withdrew from the race to support Piccillo, a former coach of the Black Lions Venezia powerchair hockey team.

Piccillo received 44 of the 55 available votes at the General Assembly, where the FIPPS new logo was also presented.

It is claimed the logo is a symbol of the two sports joining forces to become one national governing body.

"I sincerely thank the whole movement for the trust placed in me and I congratulate the newly elected Federal Council," Piccillo said.

"A federation that renews itself in name, visual identity and soul and which I am extremely proud to be able to represent.

"Now we just have to get to work, with an eye to the future, to write a new chapter for powerchair sports in Italy.

"I renew my invitation to all federal components to want to participate not only in the fields but also in building together a bright future for the movement.

"Finally, I thank Antonio Spinelli for all the work done in the previous mandates, hoping to be able to continue the excellent work done up to now."
