CCTV logoDecember 13 - China Central Television (CCTV), the national station of China and the country's largest national broadcasting network, have been named as the Chinese Rights Holding Broadcaster for the London 2012 Paralympic Games.


CCTV, which has 21 public channels and 19 pay television channels in operation, is accessible to more than one billion viewers.

Their programmes reach 140 countries and regions.

It is a major boost for CCTV after they worked as the host broadcaster for the Beijing 2008 Olympic and Paralympic Games and were awarded the London 2012 chairman, Sebastian Coe, has said he is excited about the deal for the Paralympics next year.

"The eyes of the world will be focused on the Paralympic Games in London next year and we are delighted to announce CCTV as our broadcast partner in China," said Coe.

"We will be working with CCTV to deliver a spectacular sporting showcase for the world's greatest Paralympic athletes, and the power of the Games will help to challenge stereotypes and raise awareness of Paralympic sport.

"Following on from CCTV's fantastic coverage of the Beijing Paralympic Games, this is a wonderful opportunity to showcase Paralympic sport to the largest nation in the world."

During the London 2012 Paralympics, CCTV will broadcast a minimum of five hours of action per day while they will also provide news coverage of the Games and additional broadcast hours through the national web-based television broadcaster China Network Television (CNTV).

"After the superb success of the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games, it is excellent news that CCTV will be continuing its coverage of the Games next year in London," said the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) chief executive, Xavier Gonzalez.

"The reach of CCTV in China is phenomenal and their coverage of London 2012 will ensure that millions of people get to watch the Games."
