London 2012_Paralympic_torch_relayDecember 12 - London 2012 have revealed that the next stage of the Paralympic Torch Relay Torchbearer nomination process will start this week.

BT, one of the three Presenting Partners for the London 2012 Paralympic Torch Relay, will launch their public nomination campaign tomorrow.

Lloyds TSB ran their campaign from October 18 to November 22, during which they received thousands of nominations, while Sainsbury's will run their nomination campaign in January 2012.

"Each of our Paralympians has an inspirational story of courage and determination," said London 2012 chairman Sebastian Coe.

"In tribute to this, the Paralympic Torch Relay will look to recognise unique talent and some of the amazing feats that teams of people across the UK have achieved.

"I would encourage people to take part in these nomination campaigns and nominate a team or individual they know.

"Maybe you want to recognise a contribution that people have made to your life or maybe you have been inspired by their work.

"If you think that they can inspire others, then our Presenting Partners will want to hear from you."

The Paralympic Torch Relay will be a six-day event that will begin on August 24 with the London Flame lighting event.

This will be followed by the lighting of the Belfast Flame on August 25, the lighting of the Edinburgh Flame on August 26 and the lighting of the Cardiff Flame on August 27.

On August 28, a special ceremony will then be held called the Stoke Mandeville Flame Festival where the four Flames will be brought together to create the Paralympic Flame at the location were Sir Ludwig Guttmann sowed the seeds for the Paralympic Games back in 1948.

Following the event at Stoke Mandeville, a 24 hour relay will begin that will see the Paralympic Flame taken to the Olympic Stadium in Stratford by 580 Torchbearers to for the 2012 Paralympic Opening Ceremony on August 29.

The three separate public nomination campaigns run by the Presenting Partners, BT, Lloyds TSB and Sainsbury's, will help find teams who have been together for years and achieved remarkable things or who have been grouped together as they have a common story to be celebrated.

The three Presenting Partners will also select people to carry the Flames lit in Cardiff, Belfast, Edinburgh during their evening Flame Festivals.

The relay will also include nominations from the British Paralympic Association (BPA) and the International Paralympic Committee (IPC).
