The South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) is set to end disciplinary action against its suspended Acting President Barry Hendricks, paving the way for him to stand in the organisation's Presidential election.

Reports from South African media say the sporting bodies that comprise SASCOC voted overwhelmingly to end disciplinary action against Hendricks at the organisation's Special General Meeting today.

The result of the vote to end disciplinary action against Hendricks was 47 votes for‚ 10 against and five abstentions, as reported by TimesLIVE.

The aim of the Special General Meeting was to set a date for the troubled organisation's Presidential election, which was due to take place on March 28 before being postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Hendricks was elected as Acting President before being placed on "special leave" in April.

He has been accused of blocking the candidacy of rivals ahead of the election, claims he denies.

By having disciplinary action ended against him, Hendricks would be eligible to stand in the election.

He is considered among the favourites if he does stand.

Other candidates are Athletics South Africa chairman Aleck Skhosana, Netball South Africa President Cecilia Molokwane‚ Free State Rugby President Jerry Segwaba and Northern Cape Sports Confederation head Farrell Moses.
