Competition is scheduled to take place at the German town from February 23 to March 7.

Söder is set to provide support for the event. 

"Oberstdorf is a metropolis for Nordic skiing," Söder said.

"It has excellent sports facilities.

"An equally enthusiastic and knowledgeable audience regularly ensures the best atmosphere. 

"Preparations in the entire region are in full swing. 

"These are excellent conditions for the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2021 to be a wonderful winter fairy tale, as it was in 2005."

Preparations for the Championships are still underway, despite the threat of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. 

"It is a great honour for us that the Prime Minister of Bavaria, Dr. Markus Söder, takes over the official patronage for the FIS Nordic Ski World Championships in Oberstdorf," said Franz Steinle, the 2021 Nordic World Ski Championships Supervisory Board chairman.

"We are working with full commitment so that the World Championships can take place as planned despite the currently difficult framework conditions. 

"Compared to other events, we certainly have very good prerequisites as an outdoor and individual sport. 

"I am therefore confident that the World Championships in Oberstdorf will be the absolute highlight of the Bavarian and German sporting year."

Women's large hill ski jumping and Nordic combined are due to make their Championships debut at next year's event, which Oberstdorf has previously played host to in 1987 and 2005.
