Teams from Britain and Germany lead after perfect starts at the Formula Kite Mixed Team Relay European Championship on Austrian lake Traunsee.

A lack of wind meant racing was initially delayed, but when conditions changed it could start and there was time for two races for each of the three fleets competitors have been divided into.

German's Leonie Meyer and Florian Gruber won both of their races in the blue fleet, meaning they sit top of the standings after day one.

British duo Guy Bridge and Katie Dabson did the same in the yellow fleet, meaning they too join Meyer and Gruber atop the leaderboard with a perfect two points,

Another British pair - Connor Bainbridge and Ellie Aldridge - are in third place overall after two top-three finishes in the red fleet.

Coming third and first gave them four points.

French pair Maxime Nocher and Lauriane Nolot, who are also in the red fleet, mirrored those results but sit fourth by virtue of their latest finish being worse than that of Bainbridge and Aldridge.

Nocher, Bainbridge and Aldridge all won medals at the Formula Kite European Individual Championships in Poland last month.

Poles Michal Wojciechowski and Magdalena Woyciechowska are fifth following two second-place results.

Another Polish pair - Julia Damasiewicz, the European champion, and her partner Jakub Jurkowski - sit sixth on five points.

France's Axel Mazella, the men's European champion, and Alexia Fancelli are down in 10th overall.

The opening series is due to run until Saturday (September 19), with semi-finals and a medal series scheduled for the following day.

The Formula Kite class is due to make its Olympic debut at Paris 2024 as part of the sailing programme.
