David Wallace_wins_Parapan_100m_November_15_2011November 15 - America's David Wallace produced a surprise at the 2011 Parapan American Games in Guadalajara taking gold in the men's 100 metres T44 ahead of teammate Blake Leeper and Brazilian Alan Fonteles Cardoso Oliveira.


It was a stunning success clinched in 11.31sec, 0.03 quicker than the time ran by Jerome Singleton to defeat Oscar Pistorius for the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) World Championship title earlier this year.

Mexico secured a one-two in the men's 5,000m T54, with Aaron Gordian Martinez finishing ahead of Saul Mendoza Hernandez.

Edson Pinheiro grabbed gold in the men's 100m T38 to add to Brazil's medal haul, while Venezuela's Samuel Colmenares took gold in the men's 800m T46.

Martin Raymond clinched a personal best in the men's 800m T52 to win gold for the US, and Venezuelan Jesus Aguilar won the men's 800m T53.

America's Amberlynn Weber took gold in the women's 800m T54, and she then took the 400m T54.

In the women's 400m T13, Cuban Omara Durand claimed victory, and the American David Prince won the men's 400m T44.

Omar Monterola smashed an Americas record - 53:74 - to help Venezuela to a third gold of the day in the men's 400m T38, and Argentina's Herman Barreto also broke a Games record - 13:26 - in the men's 100m T35.

Colombian Jose Florez broke yet another Games record - 13:05 - in the men's 100m T36, and American Eric Hightower won the men's 100m T54.

In the field, Benjamin Ivan Cardozo Sanchez delighted home supporters with a season's best to claim the men's long jump F37/38, and a Games record was broken in the F55 by the American Scott Winkler in the shot put F54/55/56 with 11.00 metres.

Sebastian Baldassarri of Argentina won discus F11 gold, and the women's shot put F35/36/37 was won by Brazilian Shirlene Coelho.

Leandro Ricci claimed another gold for Argentina by the narrowest of margins, edging out Canadian Kevin Strybosch by 4cm.

Venezuela had yet more glory through Danyelo Hernandez's gold medal in the shot put F20, and Jamaica won its first gold medal in the men's discus throw F51/52/53 through Alphanso Cunningham.
