Former world champion Quentin Lafargue is targeting switching from sprint events to the team pursuit at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Lafargue has been named in the French Cycling Federation’s endurance squad for a training camp next month in Bourges.

The 29-year-old told the French Cycling Federation website that he had considered whether his profile could work within the team pursuit line-up.

Lafargue said he was "excited and very motivated" by the project, with the Paris 2024 Olympics considered the main objective.

Following the training camp, Lafargue could participate in the French National Championships in December as part of the team pursuit squad.

"I hope that my hybrid profile will be able to bring to the pursuit team,” Lafargue told French website Direct Velo.

"There are already a lot of talented riders like Benjamin Thomas or Corentin Ermenault.

"I first want to integrate the collective and work with them."

Lafargue has suggested he will also continue to compete in one kilometre time trial events, the discipline he has enjoyed the most success in at international level.

The Frenchman claimed the kilometre world title at Pruszkow in Poland in 2019, where he also earned a team sprint silver medal.

He won silver in the kilometre event at both the 2017 and 2020 World Championships, while he secured bronze in 2016.

Lafargue has two European titles in the kilometre, as well as team sprint gold in 2017.
