Biathlon world champion Alexander Loginov has begun a training camp in Sochi separate from the main Russian team.

The men's sprint world champion had been forced to postpone his training regime earlier this month due to illness.

"Alexander started training at the training camp in Sochi," his personal coach, Alexander Kasperovich, told TASS.

"He decided to prepare for the season there on his own."

In July, when Loginov first began preparing for the 2020-2021 season, he was also training apart from the national team.

The 28-year-old won the sprint title and a pursuit bronze at the 2020 Biathlon World Championships in Italy in February.

He now has five World Championship medals in total, with the sprint title his first gold.

Loginov had an eventfully World Championships though as Italian police have conducted an anti-doping raid on himself and Kasperovich during the World Championships in Antholz-Anterselva.

Logniov opted not to compete in the men’s mass start competition following the raid, where his phone and laptop were taken.

He served a two-year doping ban between 2014 and 2016, having tested positive for Erythropoietin (EPO).

Loginov's pair of medals were the only ones won by Russia at last year's World Championships.

Kontiolahti in Finland is due to host the season-opening International Biathlon Union World Cup from November 27 to 29.
