The International Parkour Federation (IPF) and the World Obstacle Course Racing (World OCR) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which covers mutual governance framework to further develop and grow obstacle sports worldwide.

It was signed by both parties with the agreement focusing on SafeSport functions, gender representation, diversity, anti-doping efforts, international events, national federation relations, sanctioning, and collaborative marketing initiatives to grow obstacle sports.

The current sub-sports of parkour, ninja competitions, obstacle course racing and adventure racing will remain self-governing as technical disciplines with their own independent technical committees.

"The best way to grow obstacle sports, and improve the sport at all levels, is to do so together," said IPF President Victor Bevine.

"Unification of the sub-sports under a single governance umbrella will serve to further evolve obstacle sports across the world."

IPF and World OCR will look to establish a high level of ethics and transparency through the agreement, hoping that the unification will improve sustainability and social responsibility from both bodies.

"This initiative mirrors the organisational structures of aquatics, cycling and athletics by providing representation and governance by and for each sub-sport," said World OCR President Ian Adamson.

"The collaboration advances our goals of providing sport for all and meeting the intent of the International Olympic Committee's Agenda 2020 and the Olympic Movement."

World OCR is the international governing body for obstacle racing and related disciplines, overseeing ninja, OCR and adventure athletes since 2015, while the IPF continues to attempt to build its membership with parkour nations globally and sponsor more events in the future.
