South Africa_wheelchair_basketball_14-10-11October 13 - South Africa's wheelchair basketball team will be in London next year for the Paralympic Games after crushing hosts Morocco 83-54 at the final of the African qualifying tournament being held in Rabat.

With just one spot up for grabs, South Africa looked the strongest side throughout as they came through unbeaten to make it to London 2012.

Morocco had impressed early on, their energy in evidence as they surged into the lead at 18-14 half way through the first period.

South Africa though, were too good to be kept down for long and they came back to lead 43-27 at the break, setting themselves up for a comfortable win.

By the time they led 63-39 with a quarter of the game left, the result was in no doubt, and their coach Patrick Fick was delighted.

"We did start with a bit of nerves, and Morocco obviously had a strategy, but once we made some adjustments to our game and kept to our tactics, we took control," he said.

"The guys were so determined to get the win that they wouldn't be stopped."

South Africa will go into London next year with hopes of claiming a medal but know that they will have a tough task on to achieve that goal, something Fink is only too aware of, but insists that his team would get better.

In London, holders the United States and 2008 silver medallists Australia will be among the favourites, along with Sweden, who will lead a difficult looking list of European opponents, which also includes Belgium and hosts Britain, after their win in the European wheelchair basketball competition last week.
