The United Arab Emirates National Olympic Committee (UAE NOC) Executive Board has proposed the postponement of its elections until next year.

UAE NOC Executive Board elections had been due to take place this year but have been pushed back to after the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, postponed to 2021 as a result of the COVID-19 crisis.

The proposed postponement has been endorsed by UAE NOC President Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

Sheikh Ahmed is not up for re-election until 2021 as he was given a fresh four-year term in 2017.

The UAE NOC Executive Board has also postponed the first edition of the UAE Youth Gulf Games from 2021 to 2022.

The ruling body said the decision had been made "due to the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic this year and the congested schedule of events in 2021", including the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

The allocation of funds to equip the Olympic Library and purchase sports books and references for various sciences of sport and the Olympic Movement was also approved during the UAE NOC Executive Board meeting.
