The races had already been postponed once and moved across the country.

Initially, the USA Paratriathlon National Championships were scheduled to take place on July 18 in Long Beach in California, as part of the Legacy Triathlon event weekend, but that was cancelled.

The USA Paratriathlon National Championships therefore moved to be a part of the Ron Jon Cocoa Beach Triathlon on September 20 in Cocoa Beach in Florida.

However, due to the coronavirus situation and the travel required for competitors to take part, the National Championships were cancelled for this year by USA Paratriathlon and Smooth Running, the company which produces the races.

The Ron Jon Cocoa Beach Triathlon will still be run as a local USA Triathlon-sanctioned event and will incorporate the USA Triathlon Southeast Paratriathlon Regional Championships.

"We are disappointed that we cannot move forward with this year's Toyota USA Paratriathlon National Championships, but we know our athletes will adapt and be ready to come back stronger in 2021," Amanda Duke Boulet, Paralympic programme director at USA Triathlon, said.

"This annual showcase of para-triathlon talent - from up-and-coming stars to Paralympic champions - should only be designated a national championship if it can be held safely and fairly for all competitors, and this was not feasible in 2020.

"With that said, we hope our more local athletes who can travel safely will take the opportunity to participate in the Ron Jon Cocoa Beach Triathlon, which still serves as a para-triathlon regional championship."

Race director Mitch Varnes added: "While our team at Smooth Running was eager to welcome the nation's best and fastest paratriathletes for the Toyota USA Paratriathlon National Championships, we recognise many would be unable to travel to the race this year, and on the recommendation of USA Triathlon, we mutually agreed to cancel this part of our race."

The date and location of the 2021 USA Paratriathlon National Championships will be announced later this year.
