paralympic_tickets_28-09-111September 28 - London 2012 have revealed that 116,000 people have applied for 1.14 million tickets at the Paralympic Games in the first round of applications.

The first round took place between September 9 and September 26, with 126 out of the 300 ticketed sessions oversubscribed in at least one price category across the sports of archery, athletics, boccia, track cycling, equestrian dressage, football, goalball, judo, rowing, shooting, swimming, table tennis, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair fencing, wheelchair rugby, wheelchair tennis and the Olympic Park Day Pass.

The Opening and Closing Ceremonies are also oversubscribed in some price categories and in the cases where sessions are oversubscribed tickets will be allocated by ballots.

London 2012 will finish processing postal applications received before the close of applications before running the ballots in the oversubscribed price categories.

Payment is set to be taken by October 31 before notification of whether applications have been successful sent by November 18.

"We are absolutely delighted by the response to Paralympic Games tickets and we would like to thank the British public," said London 2012 chief executive Paul Deighton.

"The UK's love of sport and support for the Paralympic movement shows that they have taken the Games to their heart.

"When the Paralympic Games come home next summer we can look forward with confidence to packed venues cheering on our athletes."

In December, London 2012 will put the remaining Paralympic Games tickets on sale, on a first come, first served basis.

Remaining tickets for the Olympic football tournament will go on sale at the same time, with further Olympic and Paralympic contingency tickets set to go on sale in spring 2012.

But while London 2012 has closed their ticket window for the 2012 Paralympic Games, some tickets are still available for next year's event via the International Paralympic Committee's (IPC) authorised ticket reseller at www.paralympictickets.com.

eVenture Zone have been the IPC's official ticket partners since the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games and have over 25 years' experience in selling tickets and hospitality for many major international sporting events.

"The demand for tickets for the London 2012 Paralympic Games is unprecedented with one million people showing their interest in tickets before they went on sale," said the IPC chief executive Xavier Gonzalez.

"Now that the London 2012 ticket window has closed, our authorised ticket reseller has a diverse number of tickets still available for what promises to be a spectacular Games next year."

London 2012 is looking increasingly likely to become the first Paralympics to sell out to spectators who have bought a ticket.

At previous Games, organisers have given away tickets or distributed them to schoolchildren.

At the Paralympics, a total of 4,200 athletes from 160 countries will compete in 503 different medal events.

"The response from the public for Paralympic Games tickets has been phenomenal," said IPC President Sir Philip Craven.

"To have over a million tickets applied for 11 months out from the Games is unprecedented and underlines the growing excitement for what will be a tremendous sporting event.

"This will be the first time ballots have been held for a number of sports, and I could not be more thrilled."
