Organisers of the Rugby League World Cup 2021 (RLWC2021) in England have launched an education programme, encouraging primary school children across England to learn about the core principles of sport.

The RLWC2021 Education Programme will look to motivate the next generation of rugby league fans, with the resources being created by teachers for teachers.

These will allow them to deliver themed lessons on the cultural and geographical scope of the tournament which will feature men's, women's and wheelchair competitions at the World Cup at the one time for the first time in history.

There will also be a chance for schools to sign up for access to ticket offers and competitions to win prizes, trophy visits and World Cup memorabilia.

"This is a perfect example of bringing our tournament strapline of 'the power of together' to life through this exciting schools programme," Tracy Power, the legacy director of RLWC2021, said.

"By harnessing the inspirational nature of RLWC2021 with schools and children across England, we can now deliver a project which can showcase rugby league as a force for good in our core communities.

"We hope to take RLWC2021 into as many classrooms as possible through this programme as we continue to deliver on our mission to leave a lasting legacy."

These resources will be available to download now ahead of English schools returning in September.

RLWC2021 will work with One Community Trust to deliver the project, with the potential to reach out to thousands of children across the country.

"We were honoured to be given the opportunity to create the educational resources for the RLWC2021," Gary Cunningham, the chief executive of One Community Trust, said.

"Teachers know what quality teaching and learning looks like and we are confident the the RLWC2021 resources can offer children enjoyable, relevant and thought-provoking experiences."

The men's Rugby League World Cup is due to run from October 23 to November 27 in 2021.

The women's is scheduled to be held from November 13 to 27.

The wheelchair rugby will be scheduled to take place from November 11 to 26.
