Asian Paralympic Committee (APC) President Majid Rashed is holding a series of virtual meetings with the continent's National Paralympic Committee (NPC) chiefs, discussing the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic.

Over the past three weeks, a total of 25 NPCs have participated in the online meetings, with more scheduled to take place soon.

APC chief executive Tarek Souei has also been on the calls.

They have been held for the APC to learn about how NPCs and their athletes are coping during the pandemic, with the APC looking into ways of offering support.

Rashed has also said he will reach out to Asian Governments to see if para-athletes are being treated in a similar fashion to their Olympic counterparts ahead of Tokyo 2020.

Speaking after one call, Rashed said: "The meetings so far have been very fruitful and I am happy with the number of NPCs taking part in this initiative.

"It is an important time for us to stay connected with each other that will also keep us stronger.

"It's been pleasing to hear that so far, Governments have been even-handed in their treatment of para-athletes and we are grateful for this.

"The initiatives and measures taken by some of the NPCs are also quite commendable.

"On the other hand, we also understand the situation of a few NPCs and look to support them in every way during this testing time."

The APC is planning to stage a webinar series for NPCs and athletes in the coming months on several topics, featuring experts from across para-sport.
