Tom_AggarSeptember 2 - Tom Aggar has won his fourth world title in the arms-only single scull to extend his remarkable four-year unbeaten run in a time of 4min 58:01sec at the World Rowing Championships in Slovenia at Lake Bled.

Aggar took an early lead with a 33 stroke rate but was being pushed hard by the Russian competitor Alexey Chuvashev.

The former rugby player, who has lowered the world's best time six times, managed to hold onto first place with Eric Horrie of Australia coming home in third.

The Australian's result was a remarkable achievement given that he was only discovered a year ago.

"It was a fairly close race," said Aggar.

"Obviously the rest of the guys are improving every year and with the Paralympics next year everyone's going to get hotter again.

"It was a tough race but I'm pleased to come out on top."

Aggar will be confident going into the London 2012 Paralympic Games, which he qualified for by reaching the final in Slovenia, and showed he could deal with the favourite tag impressively in taking the gold.
