Special Olympics Great Britain (GB) has announced a pro bono agreement with professional services firm EY.

EY is set to provide pro bono guidance across several areas of Special Olympics GB’s organisation.

It will carry out an independent review of Special Olympics GB’s existing systems and processes across finance, governance and risk management.

The multinational company is also due to provide key insights into the charity sector which will benefit Special Olympics GB.

"To have one of the world’s leading professional service firms working with us on a pro bono basis is a ringing endorsement of Special Olympics GB and what we are trying to achieve," said Special Olympics GB Board of Trustees chairman Paul Richardson.

"This review is another example of Special Olympics GB’s strategy of working with the best-in-class expertise to support our commitment to transform our operation as we continue our growth journey.

"By adopting a best-in-class approach to managing risk and governance we are increasing our ability to deliver on our vision of reaching more people and transforming more lives of people with intellectual disabilities through sport."

Special Olympics GB is a non-profit organisation and the largest provider of year-round, sports coaching and athletic competition in summer and winter sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

Founded in 1978, the organisation currently has more than 120 accredited clubs in England, Scotland and Wales.

"There is no doubt, the experience and expertise that EY brings to Special Olympics GB will be hugely beneficial to us across the organisation," added Special Olympic GB chief executive Michelle Carney.

"I’m looking forward to putting into action their recommendations as we look to strengthen operations across our network.

"The results of this work will open up new opportunities for partnership and funding and further demonstrates Special Olympics GB commitment to long-term success and growth."
