Three-time Paralympic medallist John Harris is hosting a virtual sports day event on Zoom next week.

Harris, who won gold in the discus-5 at Stoke Mandeville 1984 and silver in the same event at Seoul in 1988, as well as bronze in the pentathlon at Seoul 1988, is hosting the virtual sports day in partnership with the National Paralympic Heritage Trust (NPHT).

The virtual event takes place via the video conferencing platform on Tuesday July 14 in two parts.

The first part takes place at 10am BST and is a Paralympic Heritage Sports Day, for children aged six to 11.

Entitled "Paralympic history with John" the event is designed to give schoolchildren and young people the chance to participate in fun activities while learning more about Harris's career.

Youngsters can learn about the history of Stoke Mandeville from an athlete’s perspective and Harris's journey to elite level competition.

The second part of the day from midday BST is Meet the Paralympian, targeted at children aged 11 and upwards and adults.

Entitled "Lunch with John" the event sees Harris talk more about his life, his career and his memories of Stoke Mandeville, the birthplace of the Paralympics, during his time competing.

Harris suffered paralysis in his legs when he fell from an attraction at a holiday camp aged 18.

After winning medals at two Paralympics, Harris went on to compete in two more - at Barcelona 1992 in the pentathlon, javelin and 4x100m relay and Atlanta 1996 in the pentathlon.

The 75-year-old was inducted into the Welsh Sports Hall of Fame in 2013.

Both events are free but places need to be booked in advance.

Places can be booked via the NPHT website here
