This year's Women’s Under-19 World Floorball Championship in Sweden has been postponed until 2021 because of the coronavirus pandemic.

The International Floorball Federation (IFF) confirmed the event would not be held in September and had been rescheduled for May 5 to 9 next year.

In a statement, the IFF said the coronavirus crisis meant it was not possible to stage the tournament in Uppsala as planned.

"The reasons for this are mainly the fact that the safety of the players cannot be fully secured and consequently the present health authorities restriction of a maximum of 50 persons gathering in public places, which means that there are no possibilities for any spectators in the arena," the IFF added.

IFF President Tomas Eriksson confirmed players who had been eligible to compete had the event been held this year would be able to play at the rearranged competition.

The IFF also confirmed qualification for the 2021 Men's Under-19 World Floorball Championship will not be staged in August and September as scheduled owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Czech Republic is set to host the tournament next May.
