Caroline_MacleanJuly 28 - Paralympian Caroline Maclean has unveiled an Olympic inspired mosaic at Bury St. Edmunds Leisure Centre, based on drawings by schoolchildren.

The pupils from Priory School created a set of drawings which were enlarged to form the basis of the mosaic, which is 20 feet tall and is on the outside wall of the Leisure Centre.

Public art charity Urban Eye put the drawings into a design, and the project was organised by Suffolk County Council.

The Council obtained a grant from Activities Unlimited for young disabled people in Bury.

MacLean, 36, is set to compete in her fourth Paralympics at London 2012, hoping to be part of the first-ever British female wheelchair basketball team to win a medal at the Games.

Kevin Whitney, the British Olympic Association's first Olympic artist, was present, and said: "It has been hugely rewarding to work on an Olympic-inspired project in my home county."

Chief executive Warren Smyth of Abbeycroft Leisure, who run the centre, said: "It is a beautiful mosaic which is a stunning addition to the leisure centre. What has made this all the more special is it has been a real community project."
