Davoud Azizi has been elected as President of the Iran Tennis Federation (ITF).

According to the Tehran Times, Azizi received 34 of the 43 votes cast in the election at Iran’s Olympic Academy.

Abdolreza Arianfar, Alireza Pour Salmani, Peyman Jafari Tehrani, Seyed Mahmoud Reza Hosseini, Seyed Kamyar Kimiaei and Seyed Reza Mir Aboutalebi were also candidates for the position.

Jafari received six votes, while Kimiaei and Pourmorazani earned two and one vote respectively.

Azizi is now set to serve a four-year term through to 2024.

"The federation’s door is open to all since we have to return to our original position,” Azizi said, the Tehran Times reported.

"We have a lot of work to do and I hope we can achieve our goals step by step.”

Azizi has reportedly been urged to addressed weaknesses in Iran’s public and national competitions.

The ITF has been encouraged to develop a plan and ensure facilities are available for the sport.

Azizi succeeds Ahmad Nameni, who had been serving as the organisation’s Acting President.
