Jean-Marc Chabloz has joined the Swedish World Cup biathlon team as a shooting coach with the country aiming to build towards success at the Beijing 2022 and Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics.

The Swiss coach has lived in Sweden since 2003 and has worked with the country’s biathlon association in several roles.

Chabloz, a four-time Olympian, has worked as a coach for the last nine years at a biathlon gymnasium in Östersund.

The Swedish Olympic Committee says Chabloz will be responsible for the strategy, planning and implementation of the shooting training for the entire biathlon team, along with Johan Hagström.

Hagström is the current shooting coach of the biathlon team, with Chabloz joining to bolster the area of the coaching staff.

Anna Maria Uusitalo will serve as the head of sport with Johannes Lukas holding the head coach position for the national team.

"We believe recruitment will be a hit for the entire biathlon team", said Thomas Engdahl, Swedish Olympic Committee sport manager.

"Jean-Marc will also spend part of his time working with Stina Nilsson."

Nilsson announced her intention to switch from cross-country to biathlon earlier this year.

The Swedish skier, aged 26, won last season's sprint title in the International Ski Federation (FIS) Cross-Country World Cup and also won two golds and a silver at the 2019 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships.

Due to a rib stress fracture, which made her miss most of the World Cup circuit this season, she has opted to move to biathlon - spending her rehabilitation at shooting ranges.

Nilsson won Olympic gold in the sprint at Pyeongchang 2018 as well as winning two silver medals and a bronze, adding to the sole bronze she won at Sochi 2014.

She has been given a specially adapted place with the biathlon A-team operations, with the Swedish Olympic Committee providing tailormade support through their Top and Talent programme.

"It feels incredibly exciting to be part of the biathlon team," said Nilsson.

"I know I have a lot to practice and feel very grateful that both the biathlon association and SOK want to invest in me as a biathlon.

"It feels inspiring to have the chance to develop together with the biathlon team.

"I feel great confidence in the entire leadership team after talking to Jean-Marc Chabloz and Johannes Lukas".

The Swedish Olympic Committee has also pledged support for a series of biathlon initiatives, including a Fast Skala Ski project, which includes grinders, embankments and development.

This project will continue through until the end of Beijing 2022.

High-altitude training and acclimatisation for the Winter Olympics, as well as close cooperation between the national team management and the Swedish Olympic Committee’s Rikard Grip have been backed to support preparations for the Games.

Development groups for promising athletes will receive special support, while training advice and nutrition is included in the investment.
