The American sprinter earned two gold medals in the Qatari capital, triumphing in the 200 metre race and 4x100m relay.

During his time in Doha, Lyles visited the World Athletics Championships Heritage exhibition, situated in a city-centre shopping mall next to the United States' team hotel.

Uniforms of sprint legends and compatriots  Jesse Owens and Carl Lewis were on display, alongside memorabilia belonging to Usain Bolt of Jamaica.

Lyles donated one of his singlets, a pair of socks and a signed bib number to the collection.

"To know my uniform will sit alongside items from so many track and field legends is special," the 22-year-old said.

"It’s good to know that the history of our sport is being respected and preserved for future generations.

"I’m honoured to have contributed to the World Athletics Heritage Collection."

World Athletics Heritage has thanked Lyles for his donation and is set to display his kit at exhibitions to be staged during the Olympic Games in Tokyo next year and at the World Athletics Championships in Oregon in 2022.

International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach and World Athletics President Sebastian Coe were among those who also visited the collection when it was on show in Doha.
