The International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports Federation (IWAS) Powerchair Hockey European Championships have been pushed back to 2021.

Competition was due to take place in Pajulahti in Finland from June 1 to 8 this year.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, however, the event has been rescheduled to May 31 to June 7 2021.

IWAS Powerchair Hockey and the Organising Committee determined that a one year delay would ensure the safety and unrestricted participation of all athletes.

The Powerchair Hockey Congress will also still take place in the days following the Championships.

"IWAS Powerchair Hockey would like to thank organisers for the hard work and good cooperation in finding a good and safe solution, as well as for managing all the different issues that come with postponing such a major event," an IWAS Powerchair Hockey statement said.

The competition is still set to take place under the name of IWAS Powerchair Hockey European Championships 2020 despite the change of year.

A number of other IWAS events have also had to be moved due to coronavirus, including the IWAS World Games and Wheelchair Fencing World Championships.
