Two-time Olympic medallist Veronika Vítková has announced her retirement from biathlon and that she is expecting a baby in November.

The 31-year-old represented the Czech Republic at the last three Winter Olympics Games, making her debut at Vancouver 2010.

Vítková was a member of the Czech mixed relay team that won silver at Sochi 2014.

Her results at the Games also included a fourth-place finish in the relay and sixth in the 15 kilometres individual event.

Vítková won bronze in the women’s 7.5km sprint competition at Pyeongchang 2018.

Vítková also won gold at the 2015 Biathlon World Championships as part of the Czech mixed relay team, having won bronze two years earlier.

"That's it, my beautiful biathlon stage of life ends and a new stage begins, the family one," Vítková wrote on Instagram.

"I appreciate that I could be part of the Czech biathlon boom.

"I would like to thank everyone who was part of my career, I will not name them personally, because there are so many people.

"It's family, coaches, other riders, service workers, team members, biathlon association, employer, sponsors, friends, fans and a lot more, thank you."

Vítková competed at nine Biathlon World Championships during her career, while she secured 10 World Cup podium finishes.

This included sprint victory at the Oberhof World Cup event during the 2014-2015 season.

Vítková secured four silver and five bronze medals on the World Cup circuit, as well as her triumph in Oberhof.
