The World Karate Federation (WKF) has cancelled a Series A competition in South Africa and postponed two youth events because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The senior competition, scheduled to be held in Durban in South Africa from September 11 to 13 was due to be the final event of the three meeting Karate 1-Series A.

Only one of the Series A competitions, in Santiago in Chile, took place as scheduled, in January, with the second planned event of the series, in Istanbul in Turkey, also being suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Meanwhile, the WKF also announced today the postponement of their Youth Camp, due to take place in Porec in Croatia between June 29 and July 2, as a result of the ongoing coronavirus situation.

The camp is one of the sport's most anticipated events of the year at youth level, with thousands of young karatekas from around the world gathering together.

A day after the youth camp, the Karate 1-Youth League event in Porec was due to take place but this has also been postponed because of coronavirus.

The Porec event was due to be the second stop of the Youth League season, however the first event in Limassol in Cyprus was cancelled because of COVID-19.

The WKF say they hope to reschedule the Youth Camp and Porec Youth League event for 2021.

In a statement on the coronavirus pandemic the governing body added: "The WKF continues to closely monitor the worldwide situation and remains in close cooperation with the hosts of all the events in the WKF calendar to guarantee the well-being of all the members of the karate family."
