Sweden's Robel Fsiha could be stripped of his European cross country title after his 'B' sample tested positive for a banned substance.

The Eritrean-born runner has been suspended since February after he failed a drugs test in Ethiopia in November, a month before he won gold at the European Cross Country Championships in Lisbon.

A representative for his club Sparvagen confirmed to state broadcaster SVT that Fsiha's 'B' sample had also returned a positive result for an unnamed prohibited substance.

The Swedish Anti-Doping Agency is now investigating, which could result in Fsiha being banned from the sport and losing his European crown.

Fsiha, the first Swedish man to win a European cross country gold medal, denies intentional doping and told the Expressen newspaper that he had only taken a tablet for a cold.

The 24-year-old, who became a naturalised Swede in 2018, is facing a ban of up to four years.
