2XUMarch 22 - Leading international sportswear brand 2XU will provide the kit for the Australian team at London 2012 after signing a two-year agreement with the Australian Paralympic Committee (APC).

The APC has enlisted the sportswear giant to supply Australia's Paralympians with all casual, technical and compression gear at both the London 2012 Games and the APC's pre-Games staging camp in Cardiff.

APC chief executive Jason Hellwig believes the agreement will provide the team with the best possible chance of success.

"2XU is a leading sports brand and Australia is one of the world's leading Paralympic nations, so this partnership was a natural fit for us," he said.

"The APC will be sending Australia's largest team yet to an away Games and it is important we source uniforms of the highest quality gear to provide the best chance for success at the highest level.

"I am confident 2XU will deliver garments that will allow Australia's athletes to reach their potential."

The partnership will see 2XU produce more than 4,600 pieces of clothing exclusively for the 2012 team.

Aidan Clarke, 2XU sales and marketing director, said: "As a premium Australian high performance sports brand, formal alliance and support of this team fits superbly with our company ethos of equipping athletes with the finest technologies and materials in the world in order that they can realise, and surpass, their best possible performances.

"In 2XU, the 2012 Australian Paralympians are set to train, race and recover in the form they should – with comfort, confidence and class too.

"When stepping into a 2XU garment, we like to think the wearer dons a performance-enhancing second skin - whether that's a psychological or physiological advantage, it's one all Australian athletes deserve."

At the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games, Australia finished fifth in the medal tally with 23 golds, 29 silvers and 27 bronze.

With athletes such as wheelchair racer Kurt Fearnley, swimmer Matthew Cowdrey, and strong teams in both men's and women's wheelchair basketball and wheelchair rugby all vying for gold, Australia will be a strong contender for a top five finish in London.

"The APC investment into preparing the Australian Paralympic Team has never been greater," Hellwig added.

"We continue to work closely with each sport's national federation to ensure Australia's Paralympic athletes are afforded every opportunity to excel at the top level.

"2XU will play a significant part in this."
