Professional Squash Association (PSA) has announced their world rankings have been frozen during the suspension of tour competitions due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Both the PSA World Tour and PSA Challenger Tour are currently suspended until the end of April.

The PSA said the rankings were frozen from March 16, following the completion of three tournaments that were taking place during the weekend where the announcement was made to suspend the tour.

The governing body say these rankings will stay in place until the tour resumes.

“The frozen rankings mean that points accrued from the 2019 edition of tournaments postponed or cancelled due to the suspension of the tour - for example the Grasshopper Cup and El Gouna International - will remain on players rankings as the 2020 edition of those events cannot take place at present,” the PSA said.

“An expiry date for these points will be finalised when the tour resumes.

“The same will apply for tournaments later in the year if the suspension of the tour is extended.”

The rankings are suspended with Egypt’s Mohamed ElShorbagy and Raneem El Welily top of the men’s and women’s standings respectively.

Egypt’s Ali Farag is second to ElShorbagy in the men’s standings with a deficit of 30 points, after being beaten by his rival in the Canary Wharf Classic final last month.

The competition was the final men’s PSA Tour event to take place before the suspension of the tour.

Karim Abdel Gawad moves up a place to overtake world champion Tarek Momen, with Marwan ElShorbagy completing an Egyptian top five after leapfrogging Germany’s Simon Rösner.

El Welily leads an Egyptian top three in the women’s standings, ahead of Nouran Gohar and world champion Nour El Sherbini.

France’s Camille Serme is fourth in the standings.
