Hadadi, who won silver at London 2012 in the event, has a training base in the United States, but contracted the virus in his home nation in the capital Tehran.

World Athletics confirmed the news and wished Hadadi a speedy recovery.

The 35-year-old also won bronze at the World Athletics Championships in Daegu in South Korea in 2011.

Hadadi has won the gold medal at the Asian Championships six and times and the Asian Games four times.

Tasnim News Agency also reported that the Islamic Republic of Iran Athletic Federation doctor Ashkan Ordibehesht said that the athlete had self-quarantined and his recovery was going well.

There are more than 38,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Iran and more than 2,600 citizens have died.

More than 31,000 people have passed away as a result of the pandemic worldwide.
