The hosts won 26 gold medals in total - 18 more than the team from the Indian Army, who finished second.

Jammu and Kashmir also won 29 silver medals and 21 bronze medals.

A wide variety of sports, some Olympic disciplines and some not, were part of the programme, including Alpine skiing, Nordic skiing, snow baseball, ice hockey and snowshoeing.

According to organisers' records, 955 athletes took part in the five-day event.

The Games were organised by the Winter Games Association of Jammu and Kashmir and the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council, with the Indian Government's Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports offering support.

As well as offering India's winter athletes a chance to showcase their talents and earn national recognition, the event was also hoped to offer further exposure to the tourism potential of the area.

Kiren Rijiju, the Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, had opened the Games.

Naseem Javid Choudhary, secretary of the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council, said the body was "happy that we could make this event happen on a very successful note".

"Once the participants from all across the country go back, they will act as brand ambassadors for us," Choudhary added.

"I wish them all the best in their future endeavors."
