Mauro Caviezel of Switzerland was given the Super-G crystal globe after International Ski Federation (FIS) Alpine Ski World Cup action in Kvitfjell was cancelled.

The 31-year-old earned the first title of his career without having to race today, after competition in the Norwegian resort was cancelled due to adverse weather conditions.

Caviezel topped the Super-G standings with 265 points, with Vincent Kriechmayr of Austria just missing out on gold on 362. 

Aleksander Aamodt Kilde of Norway was third on 336.

"It's a really special day for me after a very good and consistent season," said Caviezel.

"It's a dream come true."

World Cup competition continues on Saturday (March 14) at Kranjska Gora in Slovenia, with the giant slalom, slalom and overall titles still to be awarded.

Due to the cancellation of the World Cup Finals in Cortina, Corinne Suter of Switzerland received the women's Super-G crystal globe. 

She topped the discipline standings on 360 points, followed by Federica Brignone of Italy on 341 and Nicole Schmidhofer of Austria on 217.
