Preparations for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris have continued with the staging of the "Meeting the Challenge of Sustainability" conference today.

Organised as part of the implementation and delivery of the declaration of intent on sports cooperation, signed in January 2018 at the Franco-British Summit, the event brought together teams involved in the Paris 2024 and London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics, as well as French and British companies.

They shared their ambitions, their expertise and their challenges through a series of panel sessions.

Among the participants was Shaun McCarthy, the former chairman of Sustainable London 2012.

He was joined by the likes of Georgina Grenon, Paris 2024’s director of environmental excellence, and British sailor Hannah Mills, who alongside Saskia Clark won the women’s 470 silver medal at London 2012 before upgrading to gold at Rio 2016.

Today's event comes around a month after Paris 2024 signed an agreement with the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) – the French Development Agency – which will see the organisations collaborate in supporting projects in France and around the world.

The collaboration was confirmed by Paris 2024 President Tony Estanguet and AFD chief executive Rémy Rioux at the Global Sports Week Paris on February 6.

Both organisations are working together on national and international projects with the aim of achieving social and societal changes.

Paris 2024 said the agreement is "unprecedented" for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, with the AFD set to help the Organising Committee to achieve its legacy and sustainability strategy.

Projects will centre on areas such as education, health, gender equality, disability and peace through sport beyond France’s national boundaries.
