Hosts Jordan enjoyed a superb day three at the Asia-Oceania Olympic boxing qualifier in Amman as both of their competitors in action advanced to the quarter-finals.

Obada Alkasbeh won a cracking fight at lightweight against Japan's Daisuke Narimatsu, in front of a vocal home crowd here at Prince Hamzah Hall.

Odai Alhindawi then out-classed American Samoa's fourth seed Jolando Taala in the light heavyweight division, earning a unanimous decision from the judges.

All of the semi-finalists across the weight classes will qualify for Tokyo 2020, so the Jordanian pair are just one victory away.

Alkasbeh lost the first round as Narimatsu started strong in his bid to reach his home Olympics.

The Jordanian knocked the southpaw down in the second, however, and showed great energy in the third before taking the contest on a split decision.

"Nothing was going to stop me in there," he said.

"I felt I had all of Jordan behind me in the ring, the crowd was fantastic.

"He was a very strong opponent but I felt stronger as the fight went on."

Other winners today included Kazakhstan's reigning light heavyweight world champion and top seed Bekzad Nurdauletov, who booked his quarter-final place by beating New Zealand's Jerome Pampellone.

A clash of heads brought the contest to an early end in the final round with Garside getting a split verdict.

China's Tanglatihan Erbieke impressed at middleweight as he knocked out Thailand's Weerapon Jongjoho.

At light heavyweight, Uzbek second seed Dilshod Ruzmetov, the World Championship silver medallist, suffered a surprise split decision loss to Australia's Paulo Aokuso.

India's Ashish Kumar beat Kyrgyzstan's Omurbek Bekzhigit at middleweight and his team-mate Manish Kaushik marked his birthday with a lightweight win over Chinese Taipei's Chu-En Lai.
