World Cup winner Kylian Mbappe has been selected in the initial 80-player French squad for this year's Olympic Games in Tokyo.

The 21-year-old's place in the squad was confirmed by French Football Federation President Noel Le Graet, as reported by beIN Sports.

"Mbappe is on a pre-list of 80 players for the Olympic Games, produced by Sylvain Ripoll," Le Graet said.

"That list will then become 50, before becoming 18 plus four reserves.

"He has the age to be able to go.

"Like all the young players of his age who are talented, he is therefore on the list."

The Olympics is an under-23 tournament with each side allowed three overage players.

Mbappe's chances of playing at the Games may be affected by his participation in the UEFA EURO 2020 tournament, however, which is due to conclude on July 12.

Football at Tokyo 2020 is then scheduled to begin on July 23 and finish on August 8, the day after Mbappe's team Paris Saint-Germain get their Ligue 1 2020-2021 season underway.

Le Graet conceded PSG would be likely unhappy with Mbappe competing at the Games.

"In general, club presidents feel that the dates of the Olympic Games are not particularly good," he said.

Mbappe became the second teenager, after Pelé, to score in a World Cup Final when he hit one of France's goals in their 4-2 victory over Croatia at Russia 2018, one of four he scored during the tournament.

He has previously made it clear he would like to compete at Tokyo 2020.

Paris Saint-Germain team-mate Neymar may also participate at the Games, with the Brazilian Football Federation reportedly entering into talks with the French giants over the prospect of the 28-year-old captaining the defending champions.

He had the same role at Rio 2016, leading Brazil to the Olympic gold medal - the first time they had won the tournament.
