United World Wrestling (UWW) have announced Kyrgyzstan will no longer host the 2020 Asian Olympic Qualifier due to the spread of coronavirus.

The competition had been scheduled to take place from March 27 to 29 in Bishkek.

A letter was sent to UWW by the Kyrgyzstan Government, which informed the governing body that the country would not hold the event.

The letter was sent by K.M. Arpachiev, Deputy Director of the State Agency for Youth, Physical Education and Sports.

"Due to the rapid spread of coronavirus infection not only in China, but also in other countries of the world, fears are growing in Kyrgyzstan.

"Republican Headquarters on the prevention of penetration into the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic and to prevent further spread of coronavirus infection, headed by the Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic M.D. Abylgaziyev, has strengthened measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus in all directions."

It is the second time the location of the event has been impacted by the coronavirus outbreak.

The competition had originally been scheduled to be held at Xi'an in China.

The event was then reallocated to Bishkek.

A statement from UWW said the governing body is now considering other solutions, with discussions set to take place with the International Olympic Committee next week.

The Asian Wrestling Championships took place last month in New Delhi, which were also impacted by the coronavirus outbreak.

China were among the several countries to miss the Championships, while a handful of athletes opted to prioritise competing at the Olympic qualifier.

Around 85,000 cases of coronavirus have been reported worldwide, with 2,933 deaths having been recorded.

China has had in excess of 79,000 cases of coronavirus, which has been given the official name COVID-19 by the World Health Organization.

Numerous sporting events have been postponed or cancelled due to the outbreak.
