Lilian de Geus and Kiran Badloe won the women's and men's gold medal, respectively, to seal a Dutch double at the RS:X World Championships in Sorrento in Australia.

De Geus claimed her second world title after cruising to fourth place in the medal race on the final day of competition.

The 28-year-old, world champion in 2018, finished nine points clear of Charline Picon of France with a score of 42.

Picon produced a superb display to pip Noy Drihan to the silver medal, leaving the Israeli to settle for bronze.

"I did my own race actually," De Geus said.

"I tried to win the medal race and I came fourth but I had to keep an eye on Charline who was going well.

"The next thing for me is the Europeans and then lots more time in Enoshima."

Badloe held a 10-point lead going into the final day of the men's event and was able to clinch the title despite seeing his advantage cut to just two.

The medal race looked set to be cancelled owing to a lack of wind before the gusts picked up to allow the event to go ahead.

Badloe did enough for gold after crossing the line in fifth place, finishing with a total of 37 to edge out compatriot Dorian van Rijsselberghe by two.

Thomas Goyard of France took bronze, 17 points further adrift of the victorious Dutch sailor.

"The racing was exciting, nerve-wracking, physical, mental; it had it all," Badloe said.

"Dorian led from almost from the beginning and I put myself at the back and I had to dig deep to make sure I didn't drop into second.

"I didn't have nerves, but I did feel pressure and I knew I had to step it up and pass some people on the last few legs."
