World number one Raneem El Welily triumphed in her opening match at the Windy City Open, a Professional Squash Association (PSA) event. 

The Egyptian, also the women's top seed, eased past Julianne Courtice of England 11-8, 11-6, 11-5 at the University Club of Chicago.

"I didn’t really know what to expect, but I’m definitely happy with the match today," said El Welily.

"I’m very happy to be back here, there are so many familiar faces and so many friends here as well who come to support every year."

Her next opponent will be compatriot Salma Hany, who recorded a comprehensive 11-6, 11-7, 11-7 win over Coline Aumard of France. 

Second seed Nour El Sherbini also progressed, with the Egyptian defeating Joey Chan of Hong Kong 11-6, 11-4, 12-10.

Donna Lobban of Australia awaits, following a 11-6, 7-11, 11-8, 11-8 result against Joshna Chinappa of India. 

In the men's competition, top seed Ali Farag reached the next round after an 11-6, 7-11, 11-3, 11-5 victory against Leo Au of Hong Kong. 

Fellow Egyptian Omar Mosaad got past Frenchman Gregory Gaultier 7-11, 12-10, 7-11, 11-7, 11-6 to set up a clash with Farag. 

It will be another all-Egyptian affair for second seed and world number one Mohamed ElShorbagy, who dispatched of Daryl Selby of England 11-6, 11-7, 11-8. 

His next opponent is set to be Mazen Hesham, a 11-6, 11-6, 12-10 winner against Cesar Salazar of Mexico. 

Competition continues with the third round tomorrow.
