Beijing has announced plans to hold major esports events in a bid to help the industry recover in China following the coronavirus outbreak.

Officials in the capital have confirmed support for sectors which have been badly-hit by the crisis.

The Esports Beijing 2020 series of events will include the Honor of Kings World Champion Cup Grand Final.

Also planned is the QQ Speed National Open Final, an esports innovation conference and an esports trade fair.

The events are designed to "help the esports industry find new opportunities under the negative economic influence of the outbreak", according to The Esports Observer.

Tencent, the world's largest video game company, have announced that they will cooperate with Beijing's Government on the project.

They also hope to bring more tournaments to the area.

No dates for the Beijing events have yet been announced.

Honor of Kings is a battle arena game while QQ Speed is a kart racing title.

A large number of sporting events have either been cancelled or postponed due to coronavirus, which originated in Chinese city Wuhan.

Nearly 80,000 cases have now been confirmed, as well as more than 2,600 deaths.

The vast majority of patients are in China itself.
