Kazakhstan’s Daniyar Kaisanov defended his men’s 74-kilogram freestyle title on the final day of the Asian Wrestling Championships in New Delhi.

Kaisanov faced Indian opposition in the gold medal bout for the second successive year, with his 2019 victory coming against Amit Kumar Dhankar.

Jitender Jitender provided the challenge this time around, with the Indian wrestler receiving the additional boost of home support at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium.

A closely contested final saw Kaisanov emerge as a 3-2 winner to retain his title.

Iran’s Mostafa Hosseinkhani won the opening bronze medal match 5-0 against Mongolia’s Sumiyabazar Zandanbud, before Japan’s Daichi Takatani eased to a 15-4 triumph against Iraq’s Karam Mahmood.

Yusup Batirmurzaev delivered Kazakhstan’s second gold medal on the final day of the Championships.

The reigning under-23 Asian champion triumphed in the 125kg heavyweight division.

A dominant performance saw Khuderbulga Dorjkhand secure a 10-0 victory in the final.

The score was repeated in both bronze medal bouts with Iran’s Parviz Hadibasmanj and South Korea’s Koungjin Nam overcoming Tajikistan’s Farkhod Anakulov and Pakistan’s Zaman Anwar respectively.

Kyrgyzstan’s Ulukbek Zholdoshbekov clinched victory in the under-61kg division.

Zholdoshbekov was awarded a victory by fall over Tajikistan’s Muhamad Ikromov in the gold medal bout.

India’s Rahul Aware beat Iran’s Majid Dastan 5-2 in the opening contest for bronze to add to the host nation’s medal haul.

The podium was completed by Japan’s Ryuto Sakaki, after he secured a 4-2 win over South Korea’s Yihoon Yun.

A strong display saw Shutaro Yamada crowned as the 86kg champion, with the Japanese wrestler securing a 10-0 win over Iran’s Ahmad Bazrighaleh in the gold medal match.

Deepak Punia of India won the first bronze medal contest by the same score against Iraq’s Issa Al Obaidi, while Uzbekistan’s Isa Shapiev beat Kazakhstan’s Azamat Dauletbekov for the final podium place.

The Iranian team finished the Asian Championships on a high when Mohammadjavad Ebrahimizivlaei triumphed in the 92kg division.

Ebrahimizivlaei earned an 11-0 win over Japan’s Takuma Otsu in the final.

Kazakhstan’s Iliskhan Chilayev was awarded bronze after his contest with Uzbekistan’s Ajiniyaz Saparniyazov ended 4-4.

Tsogtgerel Munkhbaatar of Mongolia completed the podium by winning 11-1 against Kyrgyzstan’s Chyngyz Kerimkulov.
