Britain’s Chris Froome will make his return to racing at the UAE Tour as the four-times Tour de France winner continues his comeback from a career-threatening crash last year.

Froome suffered multiple serious injuries after crashing at 55 kilometres per hour during a practice ride before stage four of the Critérium du Dauphiné in France in June.

Injuries included a fractured right femur, a broken hip, a fractured elbow and fractured ribs.

The Team Ineos rider has recovered from the injuries, but his form will now be the focus as he targets winning a fifth Tour de France title in July.

Froome will feature in a Team Ineos squad, which also includes Australia’s Rohan Dennis.

The International Cycling Union (UCI) WorldTour race will have a new winner, with Slovenia’s Primož Roglič electing not to defend the title he claimed at the inaugural edition of the event last year.

Spain’s Alejandro Valverde is the highest-placed of last year’s finishers to take to the start, having been the runner-up behind Roglič.

Britain’s Adam Yates is another possible contender for the overall victory.

The seven-stage race will begin tomorrow with a 148km course from The Pointe at Palm Jumeirah to Dubai Silicon Oasis.

Both the third and fifth stages of the race will feature climbs to the finish at , which could prove key in deciding the general classification.

The UAE Tour was formed last year after the decision to merge the existing Dubai Tour and Abu Dhabi Tour events.
