Germany's Hans Jagnow has become the first President to be elected in the newly created European governing body, the European Esports Federation (EEF), otherwise known as Esports Europe.

The Esport-Bund Deutschland (ESBD) President was elected with 91 per cent of the vote and will be backed up by new vice-president Karol Cagáň from Slovakia at the formation of the Federation in Brussels at the European Parliament.

Joining them on the board will be Emin Antonyan of Russia, Ido Brosh of Israel and Alper Özdemir from Turkey.

Jagnow, as President of ESBD, worked with the German Government to deliver a dedicated esports visa to professional players from outside the European Union to allow the country to host more events and allow recruitment of foreign workers.

"The creation of the EEF will take the game to a whole new level," said Jagnow.

"It will give players, teams and national associations the voice they need to decide on the future of their movement.

"Esports is the future of sports and entertainment and players need to be part of the debate."

A group of 23 national organisations founded the Federation today with the other members including larger nations such as the United Kingdom, Italy and Poland, as well as smaller countries such as Georgia, Azerbaijan and North Macedonia.

The Swiss Esports Federation is not part of the 23-nation Federation due to the country's dedication to direct democracy, where they will submit their application to the members at the next General Assembly due to take place on April 19.

Three stakeholders have also supported the founding of the Federation with those being ESL, ESFORCE and Burson Cohn and Wolfe.

"We aim to be a constructive partner with all political institutions as well as with all the stakeholders such as developers and publishers," added Jagnow.

"We look forward to working together to reach the best outcomes for all players throughout Europe and beyond."

The EEF headquarters will be stationed in Brussels in Belgium.
