Karl Geiger produced the best performance in both rounds to clinch victory at the International Ski Federation Ski Jumping World Cup in Râșnov.

The German led the standings at the halfway mark of the competition at the Romanian venue, after scoring 133.7 points with his opening jump.

Geiger showed consistency by match his first-round distance of 100 metres with his second effort, earning him a score of 136.6 points.

His total of 270.3 points proved enough to earn a third World Cup win of the season, following back-to-back triumphs at Val di Fiemme last month.

The in-form Stephan Leyhe earned his fourth podium finish in seven events by ending as the runner-up.

The German, winner of the Willingen triple title earlier this month, achieved jumps of 99m and 97.5m.

Leyhe’s efforts were enough to finish second on 264.7 points.

He was just 0.2 points clear of Austria’s Stefan Kraft, who rounded off the podium places with a total of 264.5.

The third-place finish keeps Kraft clear at the top of the overall World Cup standings with seven events left of the season.

Kraft has an overall score of 1,333 points, with Geiger now 98 points behind following his triumph today.

A repeat performance from Geiger tomorrow in Râșnov could ignite the race for the World Cup title heading into the final competitions of the season.
