Its addition brings the total number of Tokyo 2020 Paralympic partners to 78.

By becoming a Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Gold Partner, the highest tier of the domestic sponsorship programme, it is claimed Samsung will provide valuable support to the successful delivery of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.

"We are delighted to welcome Samsung, a Worldwide Paralympic Partner, as a Gold Partner of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games," Tokyo 2020 President Yoshirō Mori said.

"Samsung has supported the Paralympic Games via their campaigns since the Torino 2006 Paralympic Winter Games and supported the Games as a Worldwide Paralympic Partner since the Pyeongchang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games.

"I am confident they will provide huge support by involving many more people in the Paralympic Movement during the Tokyo 2020 Games as well."

Sponsorship of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics is divided into two categories: the IPC's sponsorship programme and Tokyo 2020 Paralympic sponsorship programme. 

Worldwide Paralympic Partners are granted the right to use the designation of the Paralympic Games and their emblem.

The three remaining categories are designated for domestic sponsors, with the highest tier comprising Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Gold Partners, the second tier consisting of Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Official Partners and the third tier made up of Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Official Supporters.
